Kunnathunada Balabhadra Temple, Irumpa

Kunnathunada Balabhadra Devi temple is a Hindu religious shrine located near Irumpa, Aruvikkara. Goddess Bhadrakali is the main deity in this temple.

If you seek spiritual enlightenment, chanting the Goddess Mantra can bring a lot of positive energy into your life. The DEVI is revered as the Goddess of Time, Creation, Destruction and Power.

Balabhadra is a vicious form of Hindu Goddess Devi, known for the indestructible nature. Balabhadra devi is commonly depicted with 18 arms all carrying weapons as she rides atop a fierce tiger.

Balabhadra devi carries the weapons which are endeared to her as a defender of the world. She is frequently seen slaying demons and it is said that she was created to fight off the incredible might of the asura Mahishasura.

Balabhadra devi is known as the preserve of Earth. She is simultaneously portrayed as the giver and destructor of life.

However, in most of the interpretations she is portrayed as ferocious and she is the mother of the world and the treasure-house of compassion. She is considered as the primordial mass from which all life arouses.

If you are at Trivandrum and tired after prolonged work schedules, then take a drive to this amazing/powerful temple which could bring a lot of positive energy to your life. The place is comparatively less crowded where you could get a historical essence with divine feelings.

By Car – The temple is located about 12km from Trivandrum. If you are heading towards Ponmudi, take a deviation from Karakulam towards Aruvikkara road and it’s hardly 2mts drive.

Visit this powerful temple at least once in a life-time.

Travel and Tourism hit by Covid-19, Kerala beckons revival!

For a population that has been under strict lockdown for the past 3 months, the urge to travel remains high on priority. When the novel Coronavirus struck, countries began shutting down borders and the last of the tourists hurriedly packed their bags, uncertain of what lay ahead. Within just a few days, several bookings that had been made by both foreign and domestic tourists got cancelled. With the lockdown falling into place soon after, the travel circuit came to a staggering halt. During April and May, we usually get tourists from the north Indian states as a result of the school holidays. That season has been completely washed away. It’s zero revenue this year. Stories of financial upheaval are unprecedented in the travel and tourism sector in Kerala, which contributes 10% of the state’s GDP and employs nearly 20 lakh people directly or indirectly. While other non-essential industries have begun to restart with restricted workforce, tourism naturally has been the hardest-hit and ma...

For nature lovers, Vellanickal, a verdant hilltop is the perfect paradise. The road to Vellanickal goes via rubber plantations and the stretch of the road is quite rough and proves a challenge to both driver and vehicle. It was tricky and treacherous with lots of twists and turns. We reached the hilltop at evening by car. The small roadside teashops will give a good treat to your taste buds with the indigenous cuisine.  The changing face of villages and the influence of city culture can be seen throughout. The green fields and big old trees on the roadsides will surely attract you. The vast stretch of hills and valleys were enveloped with the clouds shades. It is a place for quiet meditation as you watch the sun sink in the western horizon. The cool breeze gives it the feel of a hill station. A part of the Western Ghats running parallel to the Arabian Sea, this place has been blessed with natural beauty in abundance.  Its ...

The haunting story – Bonacaud Bungalow!

Bonacaud is known for its breathtaking beauty. Bonacaud was once a majestic tea estate set up by the British right below the Agasthya mountain ranges in Trivandrum.  Bonacaud is very close to Ponmudi hills, taking a deviation at the Theviyode Junction, takes you to Bonacaud. The road forward is fairly rough. Be careful as you drive along this winding road because coming across wildlife is a common occurrence. As you go on, you might get to see the Peppara Dam in all its grandeur. Getting a good glimpse however is rare as the area is almost always shrouded in a thick layer of mist. The plush green mountain ranges move past your windows and the buildings in the Bonacaud estate stand grimly in the distance. The journey started with one of my close friends, Rajesh and his wonderful team of colleagues.  Trekking expeditions are quite common in this area and quite a few groups arrive every day to explore the factory ruins and the famous, haunt...
