Thekkady -A green shelter in Western Ghats

This blog is related to a short vacation trip that we had to Thekkady which is relatively a small hill station. You can cover the whole area in just a couple of days.

Yet for leisure lovers, you can also get to stay here for a week and get to relax. It's an amazing place full of natural specialties.

There are multiple activities for different kinds of people, right from treks, plantation visits, mountain hill top scenery, boating, staying inside forest camps, massages and much more.

A Visit to Thekkady should definitely include a visit to the Periyar Tiger reserve park. The trip here includes short 20 min journey into the reserve and a 90 minutes boating deep into the reserve/nature.

Thekkady is one of Kerala’s most popular destinations. The land has become famous because of its exotic wildlife and spice plantations. Its environment has a mysterious tone, which is just perfect for all the adventure activities you can enjoy here.

Boating at Thekkady is an experience which takes the people through the tropical backwaters of Idukki.

This natural eco-spot destination sets a voyage through the forests which gift the travelers with the view of nature sparkling in the form of waterways and forests.

Yes, it is worth visiting Munnar while taking a trip to Thekkady as both the destination are located in the district of Idukki and offers varied sights of nature to the tourists. The abode of heaven is displayed to the travelers taking a trip through this route.

Without a doubt, boating is the most popular activity in Thekkady. Periyar Lake has an ideal environment for a great boating experience.

The first boat ride starts at 7:30 in the morning. It is a one-and-a-half-hour ride offering amazing views of the lake and the dense forests on the shore. You can even spot animals coming to shore and drinking water from the lake.

It is a spectacular sight. Elephant sighting is more frequent whereas spotting a tiger is extremely rare. Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) and Kerala forest department operates the boats here.

The boat that we booked was Jala Jyothi. It is mandatory to wear a life jacket while onboard. So you do not have to worry about safety. Try to get seats on the upper deck for better views of the surroundings. They cost a little extra but the views are worth it.

The most outstanding feature of the park is the great variety of flora and fauna. It also has tropical evergreen forests with ample trees, all of which are rare and unique.

Unlike most other National Parks in India, the Periyar National Park is more than just a jeep safari tour.

Located in the heart of Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, the lake is known for exhibiting a unique experience where you can see inhabitants of the sanctuary being indulged in their daily rituals such as drinking, bathing, resting, and searching for food.

Thekkady is a stunning heaven for nature lovers and wildlife admirers, lures travelers from across the country for a short stay while holidaying in Kerala.

If you are planning to visit Thekkady in December then you must be excited as it is the best time to explore the mystic beauty of Thekkady as well as the entire state of Kerala.

A visit to Padmanabhaswamy Temple

The Padmanabhaswamy temple is located in Trivandrum, Kerala. This is a Hindu temple devoted to Lord Vishnu. The temple is presently run by a trust controlled by the royal family of Travancore. The main Deity Padmanabha Swamy, is protected in the "Anantha-sayanam" stance. Bonacaud is known for its breathtaking beauty. Bonacaud was once a majestic tea estate set up by the British right below the Agasthya mountain ranges in Trivandrum. Bonacaud is very close to Ponmudi hills, taking a deviation at the Theviyode Junction, takes you to Bonacaud. The road forward is fairly rough. Be careful as you drive along this winding road because coming across wildlife is a common occurrence. As you go on, you might get to see the Peppara Dam in all its grandeur. Getting a good glimpse however is rare as the area is almost always shrouded in a thick layer of mist. In a groundbreaking move for Sabarimala pilgrims, the Travancore Devaswom Board has now integrated KSRTC (Kerala State Road Transport Corporation) booking options within its official virtual queue booking system. This convenient addition aims to make the pilgrimage experience smoother and more accessible for devotees by offering an all-in-one platform for booking both virtual queue slots and travel services. On November 6, 2024, at the Pampa Sriramasaketam Hall, a review meeting on Sabarimala pilgrim arrangements was led by the Honorable Minister of Transport.
