Trip to Kodaikanal – The Queen of Hill stations

Trip to Kodaikanal – Queen of Hill stations This post is about our travel to Kodaikanal -The princess of Hill stations Hills and mountains always keep mesmerizing to me. So, we always keep looking for a chance to travel to hill stations and spend some time in the lap of nature, away from the hustle and bustle of city. I’ve of course travelled some of the hill stations (like Munnar, Ooty, Ponmudi etc) but Kodaikanal is the best I would say of all the hill-stations.  Just sharing my travel experience to Kodaikanal -in the lap of mother nature. Kodaiknal is the city in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu. The nearby hill stations like Ooty and Munnar have been highly commercialized, but Kodaikanal still enjoys the advantage of being a picturesque hill-station.  Kodaikanal mostly encompass of a close community and other basic infrastructure. There are some beautiful visiting spots and the economy is mostly driven ...

Elephant Rehabilitation park - a travel diary

From ancient days elephants have been an important part of the history and tradition of Kerala.  It’s not a fairy tale but I want you to take through the visuals that I come across at Elephant Rehabilitation Centre located at Kottur. The morning sun in its childish drive lures myriad figures in the water reservoir with the black majesties having their grand bath – Both big and the small. My son Abhinav standing behind the mammal with a prehensile trunk.  It's always fun to visit multiple locations on one trip, but I think it also actually depends on the ages of those on holiday. As a child, I loved spending time in one vacation spot, getting attached to the location, becoming comfortable, and feeling as though I were at home.  This is something I would like for my children to experience. Have you ever seen an elephant bathing in a lush forest?  Some of them joyfully get into the water reservoir for getting their tough skin scrubbed. Peace l...

A solo boat trip to Kuttanad

I love travelling the length and breadth of my home state Kerala and this time around, I decided to cruise the back waters around Alappuzha (Alleppey).  This is mostly unknown initiative "See Kuttanad" service of the Kerala State Water Transport Department (SWTD) where I was able to do a 2 hour cruise for a very reasonable sum of 30 Rupees. I reached the State Water Transport Department (SWTD) boat station near the local bus station at Alappuzha around 01:15 PM. On reaching I found that the SWTD offers a "See Kuttanad" cruise. This is apparently running since 2012 and there are five daily services. of 2 hours (round trip). There was one at 01:35 PM which I decided to take. These are not strictly cruise boats. SWTD has deployed a double deck boat on a regular passenger service from Alappuzha to Kainakary - a village in the Kuttanad area with multiple stops which is about 1 hour away. The boat turns back immediately...
