Things disappear without your permission, then come back again without your permission. I just want to pass on some warped memories that came back from my Ooty train journey 10 years back exactly!
I can't believe we just passed 10 years after getting married and I was looking back through our old photographs and so many loving memories flooded my mind. Nevertheless, I realized to share it here with snapshots from the old point and shoot!
The journey happened soon after my marriage and we started searching for good destination (with my brother Santhosh) and we decided to go ahead with the Ooty one as we didn’t have enough time to look at other options.

Ooty is one of the best places to escape for an exotic holiday. The Nilgiri mountain train gives you best sights of this gorgeous Hill station.
It recaps the essence of Nilgiris, lush green tea-estates, towering Eucalyptus trees, stunning bridges, uncountable tunnels where darkness eats the space etc.
It’s not just the scenery that soothe the eye, the aroma of fresh Eucalyptus, cool breeze that hits your face and everything makes this a special ride.
We decided to experience the hill station's beauty through the toy train. The train attracts everyone's courtesy with its picturesque blue and cream wooden carriages and the windows in it.

The train was running at a maximum speed of 10 km/hr, it crossed plantations and forest. The ride was exceptionally picturesque because of its mesmerizing surroundings and forested hills.
The train passed through 16 tunnels and tall bridges which contributed the ever-beautiful memories for us.
The train climbed the hill just like a person hikes the ladder. During uphill journey, the engine at the back was pushing rest of the train. And during downhill the engine is in front preventing the train from running off.
Nilgiri Mountain Railway is one among the very few railways in the world which still uses steam engine.
We reached the railway station an hour and a half before the journey. The train was marvelous with wooden coaches and it’s nothing short of an engineering marvel to overcome the challenges of nature especially the chaotic territories and unfavorable weather conditions.
The train runs at an average speed of 10 km per hour, making it the slowest train of India. However, the slow pace was helpful for us to observe the mesmerizing beauty of the hills. The zig-zag curvy track took us in between the hills.
A snap taken during train halt |
We passed through the mist and fog and the train halted at the small stations which helped us to click few photographs.
The views became absolutely heart gritting and scenery was incredible. We also have had a chance to click few photographs with some foreigners from France.

The boating at Ooty lake was also awesome. We headed to a paddle boat and could see mist floating over the water. The lazy stroll around the lake was fantastic!

It was the most successful trip that we wanted to travel since many years. These are the memories that time does not erase forever!
